ADHD & Burnout
Did you know that a common genetic trait, found in up to 60% of people, might be making you more prone to burnout?
And this is significantly more common if you have ADHD?
This can cause cycle after cycle of burnout, even when you're doing everything you can to help your body handle stress.
The most common genetic quirk that can lead to higher rates of burnout is a mutation in the MTHFR gene (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase).
MTHFR gene mutations are incredibly common! Conservative estimates suggest that 30 to 40% of us have this mutation, with some estimates as high as 60%! This mutation is particularly prevalent in people with ADHD.
Why does this matter? This gene mutation hinders your body's ability to properly convert three important B vitamins (folate, B6, and B12). Folate, in particular, is a crucial building block for dopamine and serotonin. You may be consuming plenty of these nutrients, but if you can't properly convert them, your body can't use them effectively.
In a nutshell, a deficiency in these nutrients can lead to a deficiency in dopamine and serotonin. This not only results in low mood and energy but also creates a vicious stress cycle that's hard to break. Your body remains in a constant state of stress... leading to burnout.
If you've experienced burnout before, you probably have a slew of tools to help your body handle stress. Yoga, meditation, lots of veggies, etc. These tools are vital! But they may not prevent another burnout cycle if your body can't utilize those important B vitamins.
You don't have to endure cycle after cycle of burnout. Instead, learn how to feed and supplement your unique, wonderful body so it can better cope in this intense world.
