the undieting method

Every experience is unique. Your life, symptoms, habits, likes, and dislikes play a major role in our direction. This is an overview of the general methodology that we will work through in our time together.

Note: If you’re experiencing major symptoms (like digestive issues, energy, etc), we’ll tackle those first. Feeling good in your body is very important and that will be our first priority!

Step 1 – Your Habits

Here’s a little secret about healthy eating – it’s all about your habits.

When your habits are working for you and working with your day-to-day life, healthy eating becomes easy. The easiest way to balance your habits is by taking YOU into account.

Do you have evening cravings? Or an insatiable sugar craving? Often, this means that your habits aren’t working for you.

Let me break this down:

Often, dieting culture asks us to bend our life to our eating habits and if you don’t (a.k.a, you don’t wake up 2 hours early to meal prep), then it’s your fault.

That’s malarky. You can live your life as you wish AND eat well!

Normally, when you start on a diet, you’re given a set of habits to follow. Let’s call them food rules since you don’t have any say in them. You’re told when to eat and frequently what to eat. This can feel easy at first, but you’re having to bend your life to fit into this rigid set of food rules.

Inevitably, life will get in the way. It always does.

And when it does, those food rules go by the wayside. I can’t stress enough the inevitability of this. It will ALWAYS happen (almost all diets fail).

Instead, with Undieting, we take YOU into account.

What this means is that together, we create habits that work inside your life. They work when life is super busy and when life is relaxing. They just work.

Do you feel queasy when you try to force breakfast down your throat in the morning? No problem! We’ll find a better time for you to eat so your stomach will be on board.

Is your morning hectic but you feel best when you eat in the morning? Great! Let’s find something you can grab on your way out the door!

When your habits work for you, inside YOUR life, your energy is better, your cravings are less, and your body is happier.

Step 2 – Reawaken Your Body

After years/decades of dieting, your body may seem very quiet.

Many chronic dieters lose their sense of hunger and can’t recognize feeling full or satiated. After so many years of those signals being ignored, your body stops sending them. But…you can reawaken those signals again ❤️.

First, we start with the body signals that tend to get louder after chronic dieting and tune into those (hello cravings!). By listening to your body’s cravings and other loud signals, your body starts to understand that you’re listening.

Your body begins to realize that you’re recognizing that your body is your very best friend and best ally in your health.

Your body LOVES to be heard again! It then begins to send you more subtle signals like hunger and feeling full after eating.

With Undieting you’ll learn to embrace your body’s wisdom and learn exactly what your body wants to find balance. There’s no more good food vs. bad food lists and no more counting. This allows your body to move toward food that feels good and balances your body.

You’ll also free up the mental space that’s been dedicated to dieting, counting, judgement, and planning. It’s quite liberating :)

Skills:

  • You’ll understand exactly what works for your body and what doesn’t. No more second guessing yourself or relying on outside experts.

  • Learn your body’s unique language by interpreting your cravings & symptoms.

  • Understand when you crave food & what that means.

  • Embrace “falling off the wagon” as a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your body.

Step 3: Find Food Freedom in Real Life

This is where you’ll spend your life, reveling in food freedom.

A sign of food freedom is that food is no longer top of mind, it’s just a part of life. Old favourite cravings no longer have the same pull. You’ll enjoy them whenever you want them, but most of the time you don’t even think about those foods anymore.

The best part – you won’t even think about going on another diet.

You’ve embraced your body as your very best friend, you understand its language, and you know what your dealbreaker habits are (the small habits that make or break your day).

And…eating becomes wonderfully pleasurable. Without all of that food guilt (courtesy of dieting culture) you’re free to enjoy the wonderful flavours and textures of the food you eat.

Healthy eating can be pleasurable and pleasurable eating is much healthier than any diet :)

This is Undieting at its best ❤️
